However, Hunter Biden’s attorney declined that request. Now it’s more apparent that they’re hiding something.
Hunter Biden Rejects House Oversight Request for Records
Atty. Abbe David Lowell characterized the proposal as lacking a legislative purpose. He proposed a meeting between the committee members and Hunter Biden… to determine if he has any information relevant to a legitimate legislative purpose. Lowell also stated that the committee’s jurisdiction to investigate private citizens is limited.
The committee had sent letters to:
- Hunter Biden
- President Biden’s brother James Biden
- Hunter Biden’s business associate Eric Schwerin
It’s seeking various documents, including financial records, contracts, and real estate transactions.
The chairman of the committee, James Comer, stated they’re investigating the business dealings of the Biden family. This includes potential connections to the Chinese Communist Party.
Lowell wrote, “Peddling your own inaccurate and baseless conclusions under the guise of a real investigation turns the Committee into ‘Wonderland’ and you into the Queen of Hearts shouting, ‘sentence first, verdict afterward…”
The committee’s GOP majority criticized Lowell’s decline for showing legal pieces of evidence. A representative stated that the committee would continue its investigation… and use all available tools to gather information.
The Oversight Committee’s GOP majority dismissed Lowell’s letter. The representative said, “It’s no surprise that Hunter Biden is trying to stonewall Congress’ oversight. [They are] hiding information about Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s suspicious business practices.”
He added, “The American people demand transparency and oversight, not political coverups. The Oversight Committee will continue its oversight. [It will] use all tools to gather information critical to our investigation and inform legislative solutions.”
The research has drawn debate, with some questioning its focus on the Biden family. Meanwhile, others advocate for transparency and accountability.
Hunter Biden Made Republican’s Investigation Easier
Moreover, Hunter Biden’s legal team’s recent actions have made the Republicans’ investigation easier. Lowwel’s refusal may have pleased hardcore Democrats. However, it is the Republicans who should be most pleased with Hunter’s initial stance.
So far, Lowell has declared:
- The oversight investigation into the Biden family’s alleged
- Influence peddling as illegitimate
- Declined to provide records related to the investigation
In the previous letter to House Oversight Committee, Lowell stated that the Committee’s actions are “peddling [of] your own inaccurate and baseless conclusions under the guise of a real investigation…”
However, this categorical refusal gives the Committee ample reason to issue a subpoena.
For the most part, Lowell is too defensive. He’s desperate to hide the Biden family’s secrets. This refusal could lead to the Committee’s right to such evidence being upheld by a court. The attorney’s actions may even speed up the process for the House.
